We try not to think of the
times we live in; Yet it is these times we live in, that remind us of the times
gone by, the things we did and how we really are in essence & body; only to
eventually realize, the times we live in aren't as bad after all, & pay we
should in full or at-least try to atone for what has gone by.
It is not everyday that we
live in times we do today, not often do we expect so less as over entitled
beings flocking this planet.
But what these times help us
reflect upon is things we often overlook, things we usually take for granted.
We see all around, people altering
their lives, imbibing healthy alternatives & yoga, spending time with loved
ones who they stay with otherwise but don’t share much with. We see people
thanking the almighty more than usual and helping the needy. We see all these
transactions today that are usually seen in times we need something from our powerful
creator.
These are times when we
realise, what we have can be snatched from us in the blink of an eye. So, let
us study the corona of our sun, while the shadow of the covid-eclipse lasts.
We have leveraged technology
far too much is the usual argument and that screens or exposure to digital
screens are harmful and is directly proportional to losing sleep as some say. Well,
let us look at all this in perspective.
The digital revolution has
led to newer revenue streams, connected this world, has brought us closer &
connected us. We now have the luxury of working remotely, we now have a digital
social circle and a digital world that we can switch on when we need it and we
can also log off when we no longer want its services. Sounds interesting, convenient,
and very empowering for each one of us. All said and done, it is our choice nevertheless
to use or abuse this powerful medium. We
often hear people complaining that they are lonely because of this digital world
out there and that it has made connections, relationships, and social
interactions very mechanical. While the result is agreed, the consequences are
not entirely due to technology and this digital revolution. We Humans practically
control every aspect of the puzzle and it being completely at the mercy of us,
blaming it on these digital suspects is a very convenient excuse.
It is a blatant mismanagement
of its virtues and greed of leveraging its possibilities.
It is analogous to the
childhood story of greediness of the farmer petting a hen which lays a golden
egg each day and as we all remember clearly, the hen is killed by the farmer as
it is at the mercy of the farmer & his greed to extract more from the hen takes
over; and concomitantly in our case, so will we be taken over by this created digital
world around us, now that we are just subjects here and not the masters anymore. We too
will be reduced to being puppets who are at the mercy of our digital masters.
Especially in Covid times
when we are increasingly using technology to fill the gaps which we have
created in the first place. All these years we have indeed made mockery of this world around us as we see.
We are consumed by the greed
to Consume à pollute à Kill, maim other species à abuse the food chain à abuse the planet à now that covid attacks us à use technology to abuse ourselves further à keep the consume pollute cycle on and on. It
is a vicious cycle in which we lose, and we are wiped out or reduced to
nothingness because we are taken over by the greed, and the blindness to
produce and consume and eventually threaten the natural course of things around
us.
Take a step back and open your
eyes to this eventuality; Should we, the evolved creators of ultimate things,
voyagers of our space & galaxy, conquerors of the unconquerable, be met with
such fate ?
A UK body representing doctors who
specialize in children, recently argued that screen time is not “toxic” to
health and that the evidence for harm is overstated.
For how long we will shun what we see in front
of our eyes and be taken over by the greed we are now legalizing around us every
day.
We can safely assume that
such overpowering situations occur when we treat ourselves as subjects and are at
the mercy of technology.
We must remind ourselves; we
are the masters of this game and we have the switch to control our tech slaves not
the other way around & stop this madness before it is too late !
